Department Of Posts: Dedicated To Swachhata, Good Governance & Jan Bhagidaari, Ensuring Happiness For All

The Department of Posts launched Special Campaign 2.0, aimed at promoting cleanliness and good governance, which ran from October 2 to 31, 2022. This initiative continued every month from November 2022 to August 2023. Now, the department is gearing up for Special Campaign 3.0 in October 2023, marking a decade of dedicated efforts toward cleanliness.
During Special Campaign 2.0, both the Postal Headquarters in DakBhawan and the 24,000 field sub post offices across India actively participated. Notable achievements during this campaign, which extended into the subsequent months, include closing 840 e-files, eliminating approximately 6 lakh files, cleaning 24,000 sites in October 2022, and an additional 6713 sites during follow-up cleanliness activities from November 2022 to August 2023. Remarkably, the disposal of scrap generated revenue of around 2.9 crore rupees. Moreover, more than 2,90,000 public grievances were addressed, and approximately 1,13,289 sq. ft. of space was reclaimed.

Several best practices were implemented during this period. Notably, the discontinuation of sealing wax, once used to secure mail bags, was replaced with eco-friendly, recyclable seals, aligning with environmental consciousness and staff well-being. Wall art was employed to spread the Swachhta message, with 888 walls adorned with art reflecting local culture. The installation of a solar power plant on the rooftop of DakBhawan significantly reduced electricity bills, saving around 4 lakhs each month. A unique initiative was the Parcel Café in Kolkata's GPO, creatively furnished with discarded items, including old sorting tables, and equipped with a parcel packaging unit for customers.
Looking ahead, Special Campaign 3.0, coinciding with a decade of Swachhata initiatives in the Department, promises to be significant. It will consolidate past efforts and chart a roadmap for future initiatives, encouraging collaboration with stakeholders in the national postal network. The campaign will prioritize "Jan Chetana" (public awareness) and "Jan Bhagidaari" (public participation) activities, with consultations and collaborative actions tailored to the needs of different socio-geographic communities around post offices. India Post is committed to continuing its journey towards improved service environments for customers and enhanced working conditions for employees, all while maintaining a strong citizen-centric approach in its special programs.
